With a trove of personal songs and radio hits, Jackson Browne still maintains an uncanny ability to his audiences around the world. Jackson Brownes' unique blend of introspection, contemplatyion and laid-back folk groove was as endearing as it was influential. It became the template for much of the music to come out of California during the '70s. With his first four albums, Jackson Browne built a loyal following that never staed its love for laid back sunny folk rock. 1976's The Pretender is one of his defining albums. During the late '70s and early '80s, he was at the height of his popularity, as each of his albums charted in the Top Ten. Is eponymous debut, Jackson Browne, released in 1972, gave us his first Top Ten hit single "Doctor My Eyes." Soon thereafter, "Take It Easy," a song Browne co-wrote with Glenn Frey, became the Eagles' breakthrough hit. Jackson Browne's follow-up, 1973's For Everyman, began is long-term collaboration with instrumentalist David Lindley. 1974s Late for the Sky peaked at number 14 on the charts and going gold by the beginning of the following year. Then came his breakthrough album - The Pretender. Released in 1976 it went platinum in the spring of 1977. While on tour, Jackson Browne recorded and released a new album. Running On Empty became a bigger success than its predecessor, peaking at number three and launching the hit singles "Running On Empty" and "Stay/The Load-Out." Jackson Browne released Hold Out in 1980 and became his only number one album upon its summer release. In 1982, "Somebody's Baby," from the soundtrack of Fast Times at Ridgemont High, became Browne's biggest hit. His next album, Lawyers in Love was another hit because of a string of hit singles; "Lawyers in Love," "Tender Is the Night," and "For a Rocker." 1986's Lives in the Balance stayed on the charts for over six months and went gold. Jackson Browne continued to write primarily political songs on 1989's World in Motion. After a few years off from music, Jackson Browne finally returned with the comeback effort I'm Alive. The record went gold and in 1996, Browne released Looking East. In 2002, Jackson Browne released The Naked Ride Home. In 2004, The Very Best of Jackson Browne hit the shelves as Browne was being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by fellow Hall of Famer Bruce Springsteen.
