Huey Lewis and the News were a bar band that made good. Incredibly, Huey Lewis and the News became one of America's most popular bands of the mid-'80s. The band's party-hearty spirit that made songs like "Workin' for a Livin'," "I Want a New Drug," "The Heart of Rock & Roll," "Hip to Be Square" and "The Power of Love" undeniable smash hits.

Huey Lewis and the News have always been a working band, writing odes to 9-to-5 jobs and sports. But lets go back to the beginning.

During the early and mid 70s, Huey Lewis was a member the Bay Area band Clover. By 1978, the group disbanded and Lewis was looking for work.

Huey Lewis played harmonica on Thin Lizzy's 1978 album Live and Dangerous.

A precursor to Huey Lewis and the News formed in 1979, calling itself Huey Lewis and the American Express. Fortunately for everyone involved, Huey Lewis and The News eventually became the band's name.

It wasn't until the bands second album, Picture This (1982), that they found chart success. "Do You Believe in Love" (#7), which became the band's first hit.

The band's third LP would be the one to dominate the world. Sports was released in 1983 and stands as one of the best-selling albums of all time, selling over ten million copies in the US alone.

Huey Lewis and the News performed on USA for Africa's 1985 fund-raising single "We Are the World."

Fore!, another multi-platinum album landed in 1986, Small World hit shelves in 1988 and Hard At Play was released in 1991.

By the early 90s, Huey Lewis had fourteen Top-20 Billboard Hot 100 hits. The band released an album of cover songs, titled in 1994. Lewis then took a break from recording, spending time acting, amongst other pursuits.

Huey Lewis has sung with the popular, young jamband Umphrey's McGee at several shows since 2005 and is featured on two tracks of their album Safety In Numbers.

In early 2007, Huey Lewis revealed that Huey Lewis and the News has several new songs that they plan to record in 2008.

Huey Lewis recently recorded a duet version of "Workin' For A Livin'" with Garth Brooks, which was included on Brooks' The Ultimate Hits.
