D.L. Hughley was born on Mch 6, 1963 in Los Angeles, California. A former member of the L.A. gang The Bloods, he reformed himself after the murder of his cousin, who was a member of a rival gang. After encouragement by friends and family he entered a stand-up comedy contest.
Hughley was the very first host of BET's "ComicView." He also appeed on HBO's "Def Comedy Jam". In 1998, he was given his very own sitcom, "The Hughley's", which aired on ABC. The series was based upon his own experiences moving into a predominately white suburb. He can be seen on Comedy Central string in his late-night talk show, "Weekends at the DL." His one-hour comedy special, "Shocked and Appalled," also airs on the network. His latest work is on the NBC show "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." He portrays Simon Stiles a Yale School of drama graduate and one of the three sketch show sts.
Hughley has also crossed over into movies, co-string in "The Brothers" (2001) and voicing the Gadgetmobile in the big screen adaptation of the ctoon "Inspector Gadget" (1999). It was the incredibly successful film "The Original Kings of Comedy" that launched him into stdom. He also had supporting roles in "Chasing Papi" (2003), "Scy Movie 3" (2003), and "Soul Plane" (2004). He currently hosts the weekly comedy/talk show "D.L. Hughley Breaks the News" (2008) on CNN.
