Shakira's first two albums, 1991's Magia and 1993's Peligro, were released while Shakira was still in high school and did little to garner her big album sales

Shakira's third album hit shelves in 1995. Pies Descalzos sold five million copies and garnered worldwide attention. Shakira's ¿Dónde Están Los Ladrones? From 1998 gave her true international renown with songs like "No Creo" and "Inevitable." Shakira's MTV Unplugged album from 2000 won her a Grammy and an MTV Video Music Award.

With the help of Gloria Estefan , Shakira began work on her first English album. Laundry Service, was the result and led by the single "Objection," the album sold 13 million copies worldwide.

Then came Oral Fixation, a two-volume set with one album of Spanish and the other in English. Collectively, they earned her another Grammy and three Latin Grammys.

In 2006, Shakira hit the charts again with "Hips Don't Lie," a single from Oral Fixation Vol. 2 featuring Wyclef Jean.

In 2007, Shakira received a Golden Globe nomination for song "Despedida" from the soundtrack to Love in the Time of Cholera.
