The Black Crowes burst onto the music scene in the early '90s with a guitar rock sound borrowed from early-'70s Rolling Stones and Faces. The Black Crowes debut album, Shake Your Money Maker hit shelves in 1990 and it quickly went platinum, selling a million copies. The album yielded the popular songs: "Jealous Again" (#75, 1990), "She Talks to Angels" (#30, 1991), and a cover of Otis Redding's "Hard to Handle" (#26, 1991), which had been previously covered by the Grateful Dead. In 1992, The Black Crowes returned with their second album The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion. The album entered the Billboard pop albums chart at #1, with the hit songs being: "Remedy" (#48, 1992) and "Thorn in My Pride" (#80, 1992 The Black Crowes 1994 album, Amorica, reached #11. The albums cover art (close-up of a woman's bikini underwear with pubic hair curling over the top) caused massive controversy after some big retailers refused to carry the album. The Black Crowes' 1996 release, Three Snakes and One Charm (#15), was tension-fueled affair that produced no charting singles. The career-spanning box set, Sho' Nuff, came out in 1998. A year later, The Black Crowes released By Your Side. The single "Kicking My Heart Around" reached #3. Later that year, the band joined former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page for concerts at L.A.'s Greek Theatre, which were documented on the 2000 release Live at the Greek. The Black Crowes' 2001 album, Lions, debuted in the Top 20. Recently, The Black Crowes captured headlines again. In February 2008 the band criticized Maxim magazine for its review of the Black Crowes new, yet-to-be-released album Warpaint without first hearing it. The magazine issued an apology to The Black Crowes. On March 31, 2008, The Black Crowes launched a live show download website, liveblackcrowes.com
