Bon Jovi embodies the hair band movement like no there, yet they seem to be one of the few to survive into o the new millennium Bon Jovi burst onto the scene in 1983 with a killer sound that merged Def Leppard's heavy, yet melodic growl with a more female-friendly slant. These hot New Jersey boys made housewives hot and teenagers jealous. But wet panties and brooding boys are far from all that Bon Jovi is about. Like Mutt-Lange's Def Leppard, Bon Jovi wisely employed professional songwriters that gave their songs and power ballads that freshly sprayed-on sheen. The band played up lead singer Jon Bon Jovi's pin-up good looks for the band's videos from 1986's Slippery When Wet and 1988's New Jersey. Both albums went multi-platinum and made the band from New Jersey MTV poster boys. While fellow hair-metal bands went the way of the dodo, that talented Bon Jovi managed to curb the hairspray and spandex image in the early '90s, moving away from metal and concentrating on straightforward arena-rock and big ballads. Incredibly, Bon Jovi is the only hair-metal band of the '80s to retain a sizable audience in the '90s and into 21st century. More recently, Bon Jovi participated in Live 8 on July 2, 2005. The band debuted "Have a Nice Day." Later that year, Bon Jovi was awarded with the Diamond Award at the World Music Awards for selling 100 million albums. Have a Nice Day, was released in 2005 and topped the charts around the world In 2006, Bon Jovi released a live album titled Live from the Have a Nice Day Tour. In May of 2006, Bon Jovi became the first rock band to have a #1 hit on Billboard's Hot Country Chart. Bon Jovi released their tenth studio album, Lost Highway, in 2007. The album debuted at number #1 on the Billboard charts and the album became Bon Jovi's third US number one album. The first single from the new album was "(You Want to) Make a Memory", which debuted (and peaked) at #27 in the Billboard Hot 100, Bon Jovi's highest ever debut in the U.S. charts. The album reached Number #1 in Japan, Canada, Australia and Europe, and reached number #2 in the UK.
