It took Bonnie Raitt nearly two decades before her unique blend of blues, rock, and R&B would capture mainstream attention. Bonnie Raitt was born in 1949, the daughter of Broadway star John Raitt, best known for his starring performances in such smashes as Carousel and Pajama Game. After picking up the guitar at the age of 12, Bonnie Raitt felt an immediate affinity for the blues, and although she went off to attend Radcliff in 1967, within two years Raitt had dropped out to begin playing the Boston folk and blues club circuit. Signing with noted blues manager Dick Waterman, Bonnie Raitt was soon performing alongside the likes of idols including Howlin' Wolf, Sippie Wallace, and Mississippi Fred McDowell and in time earned such a strong reputation that she was signed to Warner Bros. Bonnie Raitt's recording debut hit in 1971. Her eponymous titled effort quickly became as a critical favorite, applauded not only for her soulful vocals and thoughtful song selection but also for her guitar prowess, turning heads as one of the few women to play bottleneck. Bonnie Raitt followed-up the following year with, Give It Up. Bonnie Raitt's Takin' My Time landed in 1973, Streetlights hit record store shelves in 1974, and Home Plate was released in 1975. Bonnie Raitt finally found a hit single in her cover of the Del Shannon classic "Runaway" from her 1977 album Sweet Forgiveness. The Glow, dropped in 1979. Throughout her career, Bonnie Raitt has been a committed activist, playing hundreds of benefit concerts and working tirelessly on behalf of the Rhythm and Blues Foundation. Bonnie Raitt relit her career in 1988 with the help of producer Don Was. Nick of Time was fruit of their labor and it became the darling f the critics. For it, Bonnie Raitt won a handful of Grammys, including Album of the Year. Bonnie Raitt's Luck of the Draw was also a smash in 1991, yielding the hits "Something to Talk About" and "I Can't Make You Love Me." After 1994's Longing in Their Hearts, Raitt resurfaced in 1998 with Fundamental. In March of 2000, Bonnie Raitt was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Bonnie Raitt released Silver Lining in 2002, while Souls Alike was released in 2005.
