Three Mo' Tenors Biography
The group known as Three Mo’ Tenors was established in 2000 by founding members Rodrick Dixon, Thomas Young, and Victor Trent Cook. The trio’s unique style, which blends everything from opera to jazz, classical to gospel, managed to rise as a crossover group that transcended stereotypes and boundaries.
Inspired by the well-known Three Tenors ( Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti), Young, Dixon, and Cook brought their classical and operatic training and poured their talents into the debut album Three Mo’ Tenors in 2001. The group was actually assembled by Marion J. Caffey, a Broadway producer who found inspiration in the original Three Tenors and sought to find a way to create a similar group featuring African American men. After bringing the Three Mo’ Tenors together, and after the release of their debut album, Caffey arranged for the trio to hit the road and begin performing across the nation.
Within a year, the Three Mo’ Tenors were performing on PBS’s Great Performances, releasing live CDs of their performances, and booking shows well into the coming years. Today, the trio continues to perform and record, and in recent years has performed across the globe to sold-out audiences.
