The American hard rock band Dead Sara was established shortly after the start of the new millennium, by founding members Siouxsie Medley and Emily Armstrong. Both women began playing guitar when they were still in elementary school, and both had played in a number of school bands and local bands as teeangers. When the two met in their mid-teens, they began writing songs together and finally decided to begin performing together.
After a brief stint performing under the name Epiphany, the musicians turned their band into a four-piece and adopted the name Dead Sara, a nod to Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac’s hit song, “Sara.” By 2007, they had recorded their first EP, The Airport Sessions, and started touring in support of other artists. But it was the independent song “Weatherman” that began to garner Dead Sara some traction, earning the group some radio play and enough support to enter the studio in preparation for a debut album.
The group’s debut, Dead Sara, arrived via Pocket Kid Records and rose into the top twenty on the Heatseekers Albums charts. But the group received a big boost when Fiat decided to feature “Weatherman” in one of their commercials, and since that time the group has been steadily on the rise.
Since Dead Sara, the group has released the additional albums: Pleasure to Meet You (2015) and The Covers (2017), featuring the additional songs “We Are What You Say,” “Lemon Scent,” “Suicidal,” “Mona Lisa,” and “Something Good.” The group recently wrapped a short tour and they are expected to enter the studio this year to begin writing and recording for their next upcoming album.
