Moon Taxi Biography

The American progressive rock band known as Moon Taxi was established in Nashville, Tennessee in 2006 by founding members Wes Bailey, Tyler Ritter, Spencer Thomson, Tommy Putnam, and Trevor Terndrup. The five musicians had met while attending Belmont University; Putnam and Terndrup had actually grown up together in Alabama and met in high school many years prior.

After the young men found themselves all pursuing individual careers as musicians in Nashville, they decided to begin writing and recording together, ultimately forming the band Moon Taxi. The group released their debut album, Melodica, in 2007, and began an extensive tour throughout the southeast United States in support of the endeavor. The live album, Live Ride, followed in 2008, setting the stage for even more live performances including a set at The Hangout Music and Arts Festival and opening gigs for Umphrey’s McGee and Gov’t Mule.

Since Melodica and Live Ride, Moon Taxi has released the additional albums: Cabaret (2012, featuring the singles “Let’s Go Back,” “Square Circles,” and “Gunflower”); Mountains Beaches Cities (2013); and the recent Daybreaker (2015), produced by Grammy-winning Jacquire King. Moon Taxi recently performed at multiple high-profile festivals in 2016, including Firefly Music Featival, Coachella, Forecastle, Lockn’ Festival, and Beale Street Music Festival. The group also recently performed on Conan and Late Night with Seth Myers.
