Sierra Ferrell is an American singer-songwriter and musician from West Virginia, known for her unique blend of folk, bluegrass, gypsy jazz, and Latin styles. Born on August 3, 1988, Ferrell grew up in a trailer with her mother and one of her two siblings after her parents divorced when she was five. She developed a strong connection to the outdoors and spent most of her childhood exploring nature.Ferrell's musical journey began in childhood, playing clarinet and singing in school choirs. She later learned to play guitar and even performed Shania Twain covers at a local bar. In her teens, she joined a Grateful Dead cover group as a vocalist, but eventually left the band to pursue her own musical aspirations. She spent her early twenties living a nomadic lifestyle, busking between Seattle and New Orleans, and was heavily influenced by folk music and its offshoots.Ferrell's musical style was shaped by her experiences busking and performing with other musicians, including the group Yes Ma'am.
