St. Paul and The Broken Bones Biography

The soul band known as St. Paul and The Broken Bones was established in 2012 by founding members Jesse Phillips and Paul Janeway. The two musicians met while performing around the Birmingham, Alabama area in the band The Secret Dangers. As the two musicians began writing and recording music, they recruited additional musicians Allen Branstetter, Ben Griner, Andrew Lee, and Browan Lollar.

 

St. Paul and The Broken Bones released a debut EP, Greetings from St. Paul and The Broken Bones, in 2013, and began to garner some attention from record labels and managers. Later that year, the band signed with Thirty Tigers as their management group, and Single Lock Records as their record label. The debut album, Half the City, followed in 2014, earning critical acclaim from publications such as Rolling Stone, Southern Living, and NPR, and quickly rose to the number sixty-two spot on the mainstream charts in the United States. A series of performances, including a television debut on CBS: This Morning, brought the album even higher.

 

Clearly, St. Paul and The Broken Bones is a band on the rise and one to watch in the coming years. The band most recently released their second album, Sea of Noise, in 2016, which was also met with critical acclaim. The band also performed at the Celtic Connections festival in early 2017.
