The band's origins trace back to 1994 when vocalist/guitarist Courtney Taylor, keyboardist Zia McCabe, guitarist Peter Holmström, and drummer Eric Hedford formed the Dandy Warhols in Portland, Oregon. Their debut album, "Dandys Rule OK?," arrived in 1995, revealing influences from bands like the Velvet Underground and Ride.

In 1997, Capitol Records signed the group, leading to their polished-sounding second album, "Dandy Warhols Come Down." It garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, especially in the U.K., where it went gold.
