Veronica Roth Biography
As novelist and author of the Divergent series, Veronica Roth had always harbored aspirations to become a writer. Born in 1988 in New York City but raised in Barrington, Illinois, young Veronica began writing creatively when she was in high school. While in her senior year at Northwestern University’s creative writing program, she settled in Chicago and began writing her smash-hit young adult science fiction series.
Divergent, the first in the trilogy, was published in 2011 and was an instant hit – the rights were sold even before Veronica graduated from college, mere months after she’d started writing. The novel earned Roth the 2011 a Goodreads Choice Awards and the Goodreads Favorite Book of the year award. Insurgent, the second novel in the series, earned her a Best Goodreads Author for 2012. Allegiant followed in 2013.
The rights to the entire Divergent Series was sold to Summit Entertainment in 2013, and the studio immediately began filming. The first film in the franchise, Divergent, released in early 2014, and the first installment of the Allegiant adaptation (which was split into two parts), released in 2016. The final installment of Allegiant, Part 2, is scheduled for release in 2017.
In addition to the Divergent Series of novels, Veronica Roth has also crafted multiple short stories from key character Tobias Eaton’s point of view. These shorter works have been released in print and on Kindle. Roth is currently working on her next book, tentatively titled Carve the Mark. It is scheduled for release in late 2017 or early 2018.
