Kim Coates Biography
The Canadian actor Kim Coates was born in 1958 Saskatchewan. Best known today for his role as Tig Trager on the hit series Sons of Anarchy, Coates grew up as a teenager without much interest in drama or theater. It wasn’t until he reached university, attending the University of Saskatchewan, that he took a drama course as an elective and found that he not only had a knack for acting, but a love for the craft as well.
Coates made his big screen debut in a small role in the film The Boy in Blue (1986), but his breakthrough came in the role of Tony Dicarlo in Palais Royale (1988.) For the remainder of the decade and into the next, Kim appeared in the movies: The Last Boy Scout (1991), Under the Cover of Darkness (1992), The Client (1994), Waterworld (1995), Unforgettable (1996), and Battlefield Earth (2000.) His career began to pick up in the new millennium, and Coates scored key roles in such films as: Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down, The Island, Hostage, and Skinwalkers. Around the same time, he also began appearing in a number of hit television shows, some of them in recurring roles, including: CSI, Smallville, Cold Case, and Entourage.
In 2008, Kim Coates scored the role of Tig Trager in the hit FX series Sons of Anarchy, the role which has now made him a household name. Although he continues in this role, Coates also continues to appear on the big screen, expected in multiple films in 2014: Last Days Here, A Fighting Man, By Virtue Fall, and Fallout Asylum. With a staggering and impressive resume, Coates has appeared in more than 100 roles, and he continues to act on the big and small screen, in addition to periodic stage performances as well.
