American chef Sara Moulton was born in 1952 in New York City. As a child, Moulton was enamored with the culinary world, although it wasn’t until after her graduation from the University of Michigan that she considered pursuing the career seriously. In 1975, Moulton enrolled at the Culinary Institute of America and following her graduation from the program in 1977, she immediately began working in restaurants in Boston and then back in New York City.
Sara’s earliest television work began on PBS’s Julia Child & More Company, where she worked behind the scenes. It would be another two decades before she would make her debut in front of the camera, as an on-air food editor for ABC’s Good Morning America, but her tenure on the show would last from 1997 to 2012. During this time Moulton also hosted various shows for the Food Network, including: Cooking Live (1997-2002), Sara’s Secrets (2002-2005), and the current Sara’s Weekend Meals, which has earned Moulton two James Beard Award nominations and three nominations for Sara as Outstanding Personality/Host.
In addition to her television appearances, Sara Moulton is the author of six cookbooks so far, starting with The Good Morning America Cut the Calories Cookbooks, published in 2000. Her most recent book – Home Cooking 101: How to Make Everything Taste Better – was published in 2016. Moulton also authors a weekly cooking column for the Associated Press.
