Kate Moss Biography
The English model Kate Moss was born in 1974 in Croydon, London. Kate entered the modeling industry in the late 1980’s, when at the young age of fourteen she was discovered by Storm Model Management while traveling through New York after a family vacation. Moss immediately became part of the growing “grunge” or “heroin chic” modeling style, contrasting the dominating models of the era, including Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford.
For the next two decades and beyond, Kate Moss was one of the most familiar faces in fashion, associated with her work for Calvin Klein, Gucci, and Dolce & Gabbana. In addition to modeling for other labels, Kate Moss has established her own clothing line and in recent years has also forayed into music, a passion which she has enjoyed since she was a teenager. Moss provided vocals for the Lemonheads (on “You’re a Dirty Robot”); Primal Scream (on “Some Velvet Morning”); and Babyshambles (on “La Belle et la Bete.”) Moss also contributed to the writing on four Babyshambles songs. Most recently, Kate Moss has started appearing as a DJ in a number of high profile venues in Europe and the United States. She recently surprised her friend Sam McKnight by taking over the turntable at his birthday party in the spring of 2015, at London’s famed private members club, Tramp.
Kate Moss’s career as a model has continued well into her forties. She appeared nude in Playboy in 2013 for the publication’s sixtieth anniversary issue, and as recently as 2012 she was still appearing on Forbes list of top earning models. In acknowledgment of her legacy, Kate Moss has been recognized with a British Fashion Award and has listed as “sexiest woman” of the year or era in multiple publications, including Arena, Vogue, and Maxim.
