Will Downing Biography

The American singer and producer Will Downing was born in 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating in 1982, Downing attended Virginia Union University before moving back to New York City, at which time he embarked on a career in the music industry, working on albums for such high-profile artists as Regina Belle, Billy Ocean, Kool & the Gang, and Jennifer Holiday.

 

In 1988, Will Downing signed his own recording contract as a solo artists, and released a self-titled debut. The album was a significant success, launching the top ten hit “A Love Supreme,” which became a staple at dance clubs across the nation. Since that time, Downing has released nearly an album every single year, including: Come Together as One (1989), Love’s the Place to Be (1993), Pleasures of the Night (1998), All the Man You Need (2000), Sensual Journey (2002), Emotions (2003), Soul Symphony (2005), After Tonight (2007), Love, Lust & Lies: An Audio Novel (2010), Yesterday (2011), and Today (2012.) The album All the Man You Need earned Downing his first Grammy nomination, for Best Traditional R&B Album.  

 

Will Downing continues to perform and record. His most recent album release is Tomorrow, which arrived in 2012. Downing has plans for another album release within the next year or two.
