Meat Loaf Song List
It was the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show that first propelled Meat Loaf into screen and stage. Following his debut in the film, Meat Loaf became an iconic figure of the 1970’s, with consistent best-selling songs. But it would be two decades later that he would re-emerge with a vengeance, taking the music world by storm.
Born in Dallas, Texas as an only child, Meat Loaf’s childhood was less than ideal. As a child he spent much time with his grandmother, to escape his father’s alcoholic drinking binges. Meat Loaf found a home on the stage of his high school, acting in school productions such as The Music Man. After starting his college studies as Lubbock Christian College, he eventually transferred to what is now the University of North Texas in Denton. Meat Loaf found his way to California, and it was there that he formed his first band, Meat Loaf Soul. Both musical performances and stage performances (including in the hit Broadway show, Hair) led to recognition that would eventually lead him to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which Meat Loaf followed with the release of the original Bat Out of Hell, most famous for its single “Paradise by the Dashboard Light.”
From the late 1970’s to the early 1990’s, Meat Loaf acted, recorded, and performed, but it was the sequel to Bat Out of Hell that would being him back to center stage. The album sold over five million copies and included the hit single “I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That),” still today considered one of his biggest and most memorable hits. The studio album Welcome to the Neighborhood followed in 1995, and “Not a Dry Eye in the House,” and “I’d Lie for You” brought it to platinum status. Since that time, Meat Loaf has released: The Very Best of Meat Loaf (1998), Couldn’t Have Said it Better (2003), Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose (2006), Hell in a Handbasket (2011), and Braver Than We Are (2016.)
Today, Meat Loaf is among those legendary rock artists who has endured the test of time and continues to perform and record. VH1 ranks him number 96 on the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock list, and he recently completed his extensive Braver Than We Are Tour in late 2017. In addition to recording and performing his music, Meat Loaf also appears in small roles on television series, such as House M.D., Monk, Elementary, and Glee; and in films such as Fight Club, The Moment, and Stage Fright.
