The Monkees Biography
The Monkees are a band formed in 1966. The group consists of original founding members Micky Dolenz and Michael Nesmith, with previous two members Davy Jones and Peter Tork leaving in 2012 and 2018, respectively. The Monkees were founded in Los Angeles, California, and specialized in the pop-rock craze of the 1960s.
The Monkees would begin crafting tunes for the comedy television program The Monkees in the mid-1960s before transitioning to more professional settings. Their debut album was an instant hit and cemented the band as one of the biggest of the 1960s. After 1971 The Monkees would begin to sporadically reunite and break apart over the next four decades until a solid reunion in 2010.
The Monkees’ first two albums were both certified quintuple Platinum and topped the Billboard 200, with their next two albums going double Platinum and topping the Billboard 200. The Monkees have had six songs certified Gold, and three records top the Billboard Hot 100, including their debut single “Last Train to Clarksville” and their most well-known hit “I’m a Believer.”
The Monkees are releasing a new live album in 2020 entitled The Mike and Micky Show LIVE! and continue to tour actively.
