Russell Peters was born in 1970 in Ontario, Canada. He began performing stand-up shortly after graduating from high school, although his career breakthrough would not come until 2004, when a stand-up performance for the show Comedy Now! went viral on YouTube and made Peters an instant sensation. Immediately following, Russell found himself with dozens of offers for television and film roles, and he began performing to sold-out audiences. Russell Peters’s brand of humor highlights issues of class, ethnic, and cultural clashes and stereotypes, often inspired by his real-life multicultural upbringing.
Shortly after becoming an internet phenomenon, Outsourced, Russell Peters’s debut album, was released in 2006 via Comedy Central and the DVD version went on to sell over 100,000 copies. Red, White, and Brown followed, in 2011 came The Green Card Tour: Live from the O2 Arena, a recording of his performance to a crowd of over 30,000 in London. In addition to his record-breaking sell-out shows, Russell Peters has appeared in a number of films and television shows, including: Just for Laughs (2005), The Take (2008), Senior Skip Day (2008), Def Comedy Jam (2008), The Hour (2008), The Con Artist (2010), Source Code (2011), Breakaway (2011), A Day in the Life (2011), The Green Room with Paul Provenza (2011), The Marilyn Denis Show (2011), 8 out of 10 Cats (2011), Girl in Progress (2012), and of course he has appeared on the most well-known talk shows, including the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
Recently, Russell Peters hosted the 2008 Juno Awards and released Call Me Russell, his autobiography, in 2010. Russell Peters is just getting started, and he continues to perform stand-up on stage and television regularly.
