Joe Nichols Biography

Joe Nichols was born in 1976 in Rogers, Arkansas. His first love of music came to him through his father, a trucker by trade who was also a guitar player in a number of local country music bands. Initially, Joe fell in love with rock music and even joined a band and performed, before returning to his original influences. Nichols did not experience immediate success with his endeavors; his first self-titled debut spawned only a few moderately successful singles, and a second album did not fare much better. But by the late 1990’s, things were about to change for Joe.

After a meeting with another musician in Nashville, Joe Nichols caught the attention of Universal and released another album, Man with a Memory, in 2002. On the strength of the single “The Impossible,” which rose to number three on the country charts, the album was extraordinarily successful, and spawned the re-release of Joe’s debut album, now titled Six of One, Half a Dozen of the Other. The singles “Cool to be a Fool,” “Brokenheartsville,” and “She Only Smokes When She Drinks” all fared equally well, and Man with a Memory went platinum, bringing Joe Nichols three Grammy nominations and an Academy of Country Music Award (for Top New Male Vocalist.)

Five additional albums followed: Revelation (2004), III (2005), Real Things (2007), Old Things New (2009), and It’s All Good (2011), spawning the additional singles: “Cool to be a Fool,” “If Nobody Believed in You,” “What’s a Guy Gotta Do,” “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off,” “Size Matters (Someday),” “I’ll Wait for You,” “Another Side of You,” “It Ain’t No Crime,” “The Shape I’m In,” and “Gimme that Girl,” all of which rose into the top twenty or higher on the country charts. Joe Nichols continues to perform and tour regularly, and is preparing for his next studio album release.
