Kenny Rogers Song List
Born in Houston, Texas to a family of seven children, Kenny Rogers launched his solo career with his debut single, “Love Lifted Me.” But it would be the single “Lucille” a few years later in 1976 that eventually rocketed him to stardom. Hits like "Daytime Friends," "We've Got Tonight," "Coward of the County," "We've Got Tonight," and "Crazy” would follow, making Rogers one of the most successful solo performers of the 1970’s and 1980’s.
In fact, nearly every album released by Kenny Rogers between 1976 and 1984 went gold or platinum, and he entered the 1980’s with the highly successful “Lady,” which spent six weeks on the charts. Duets with singers like Sheena Easton (“We’ve Got Tonight”) and Kim Carnes (“Don't Fall in Love with a Dreamer") further strengthened his status. He also enjoyed a series of Top Ten duets with Dottie West, including the number one hits "Every Time Two Fools Collide" (1978), "All I Ever Need Is You" (1979), and "What Are We Doin' in Love" (1981).
In the early 1980’s, Rogers also began a career in television and film, appearing first in the film Six Pack in 1982, and then later in films based on his own music, most notably Coward of the Country and The Gambler. But he remained focused on his music career at the same time, releasing one of his biggest hits—the duet
“Islands in the Stream,” (with Dolly Parton) becoming one of his biggest hits upon its release in 1983. Additional singles throughout the 1980’s include "Crazy" (1984), "Real Love" (1985), "Morning Desire" (1985), "Tomb of the Unknown Love" (1986), and the Ronnie Milsap duet "Make No Mistake, She's Mine" (1987).
Kenny Rogers continues to record, perform, and tour well into the new millennium. Notable albums between 2000 and 2010 include: There You Go Again (2000), A&E Live by Request (2001), Back to the Well (2003), Me & Bobby McGee (2004), Water & Bridges (2006), and 50 Years (2008.) In 2012, he appeared on stage at Bonnarro with the jam band Phish for a performance of his classic hit “The Gambler”; in the following year he released his latest album, You Can’t Make Old Friends.
Although Kenny Rogers recently embarked on a “farewell” tour in 2015, scheduled to last through 2017, he has made clear that he will not retire fully from the entertainment industry. Rather, he plans to reduce his public appearances and performances to just a few rare occasions each year.
