Brass Construction Biography

The American funk group Brass Construction was established in Brooklyn, New York, in 1968. After signing with United Artists in the mid 1970’s, Brass Construction went on to score a big hit with the song “Movin,” which rose into the top twenty on the mainstream charts and put the band on the map of up and coming groups.

Brass Construction’s self-titled debut rose to the number ten spot on the mainstream charts and the number one spot on the R&B charts after its release. The album reached platinum status in the United States and set the stage for a series of highly successful albums over the next ten years, including: Brass Construction II (1976), Brass construction III (1977), Attitudes (1982), Conversations (1983), Renegades (1984), and Conquest (1985.) Additional hit singles include: “Changin” “Ha Cha Cha (Funktion),” “L-O-V-E-U,” “Get Up,” “Right Place,” “Walkin’ the Line,” and “Can You See the Light.”

Brass Construction’s hits went on to find their way into a variety of different entertainment mediums, and have been sampled by many different artists, including: N.W.A. (on “I Ain’t Tha 1”); Biz Markie (on “Cool V’s Tribute to Scratching”); King Tee (on “Get up to Get Down”); and Cheek (on “Sunshine People.”) Although Brass Construction dissolved in the late 1980’s, the group reunited in 2005 for a concert in Paris, at the Bataclan Arena.
