France Joli Biography

The Canadian singer France Joli was born in 1963 in Montreal. France began performing when she was still a child, and by the time she was an early teen she’d left traditional schooling to focus on a potential career as a performer full-time. A chance meeting with a record producer led to her debut album, France Joli, released in 1979. The album’s first single, “Come to Me” was a dance/club sensation, rising to the top of the charts and launching France Joli’s career.

For the next two decades, France Joli enjoyed a steady stream of successful albums, including Tonight (1980), Now (1981), Attitude (1983), Witch of Love (1985), and If You Love Me (1998.) The albums gave audiences the additional disco hits “Don’t Stop Dancing,” “ Heart to Break the Heart,” “Feel Like Dancing,” “Gonna Get Over You,” and “Touch.”

France Joli continues to perform and record. Her iconic hit “Come to Me” is featured in the movie 54 (based on the reign of Studio 54 in New York City), and also in the documentary When Ocean Meets Sky, chronicling the Fire Island communities during the disco heyday.
