Banks Biography

The singer-songwriter Banks was born Jillian Banks in Los Angeles, California. Banks burst onto the music scene in 2013 with her song “Before I Ever Met You,” but long before that young Jillian was writing her own music while still a teenager. A self-taught pianist, she began to compose and record her own works and post them to Soundcloud. The social media site helped to bring Banks’s music to the masses, and since that time she’s experienced a surge in popularity.   

Banks released the EP Fall Over in 2013, followed by the EP London, both of which were available via digital download. The works earned Banks nominations for awards from both MTV and the BBC, and her name began to appear on other notable lists, such as: New Artists for 2014 (iTunes); Artist of the Week (Vogue Magazine); Albums You Gotta Year in 2014 (Spin Magazine); and rave reviews in such publications as the Huffington Post and the Boston Globe.

Most recently, Banks served as the opening act for The Weeknd during his fall tour in 2013, and then launched her own tour in 2014. Banks performed at the Open’er Festival and the Coachella Music Festival in the spring of 2014, and her music has been featured in commercials for Victoria’s Secret.
