Booka Shade Biography

The house duo known as Booka Shade was founded by Arno Kammermeier and Walter Merziger in Frankfurt, Germany, in the early 2000’s. Booka Shade initially started as a synth-pop group, but later transitioned to dance and club music, founding Get Physical Records alongside DJ T and M.A.N.D.Y. in 2000 and releasing the debut album, Memento, in 2004.

 

Memento was a hit, spawning Booka Shade’s singles “Every Day in My Life,” “Stupid Questions,” “Vertigo/Memento,” and “Body Language.” The album paved the way for the additional releases: Movements (2006), DJ-Kicks (2007), The Sun & the Neon Light (2008), and More! (2010.) The albums spawned a number of additional singles for Booka Shade, including: “In White Rooms,” “Numbers,” “Donut,” “Teenage Spaceman,” “Regenerate,” and “Honeyslave.” In addition, Booka Shade has given audiences the remixes “Dream About Me” ( Moby); “Just Let Go” (Fischerspooner); “Pass This On” (The Knife); “In My Arms” (Mylo); “Martyr” ( Depeche Mode); “My Day” (Spektrum); “Oh Yeah” (Yello); “3 Weeks” (Tiga); and “Get Your Money” (will.i.am.)

 

Most recently, Booka Shade released the album EVE (2013), featuring the songs “Haleshop,” “Blackout: White Noise,” and “Love Inc.” Booka Shade’s hit song “In White Rooms” has also been featured on the television series CSI: NY.
