Caribou Biography
The Canadian musician known as Caribou was born Daniel Victor Snaith in 1978. Also known by the stage name Daphni, Caribou initially began recording and performing as Manitoba, with the debut album Start Breaking My Heart, released in 2001. He also released the album Up in Flames as Manitoba, but conflicts with another artist using a similar name caused him to switch to recording as Caribou.
As Caribou, Snaith released the album The Milk of Human Kindness in 2005, but it was his next endeavor, the album Andorra, which became his big breakthrough upon its arrival in 2007. Andorra brought Caribou a Polaris Music Prize and the album ranked at the top of the Heatseekers and Billboard Top Independent Albums chart. Since that time, Caribou has released the albums Swim (2010) and Our Love (2014.) As Daphni, he has also released the album Jiaolong (2012.) Swim earned Caribou another Polaris Music Prize and a Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year in 2011.
Caribou is definitely an artist with a career on the rise and one to watch. He was recently recognized with another Juno Award, again for Electronic Album of the Year, in 2015 for Our Love. He also earned the IMPALA Album of the Year Award, also in 2015.
