DJ Cut Creator Biography

The DJ known as Cut Creator was born Jay Philpot in Queens, New York. Jay grew up inspired by the music of his father, world renowned sax player Jack Philpot. Jay learned to play a variety of instruments as a child, starting with the trombone when he was still in elementary school. By the time he was a teenager in the late 1970’s, the burgeoning Hip Hop scene became his focus of interest, and Jay learned to work the turntables, slowly growing into the DJ known as “Cut Creator.”

Cut Creator began to host parties in his local neighborhoods, ultimately teaming up with LL Cool J, with whom he would go on to collaborate some of the era’s most notable hip hop hits. Over the course of twenty-five years, Cut Creator grew to become one of the era’s most legendary and iconic DJ’s, earning a spot on Newsweek Magazine’s “Top 25 Hip Hop DJ’s of All Time.”

Over the years, Cut Creator has also forayed into producing and acting, appearing in such films as Krush Groove and serving as producer for a number of other musicians. With LL Cool J, Cut Creator has performed for innumerous awards shows and events, including: The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The American Music Awards, The Grammys, and the BET Music Awards.

Today, Cut Creator is one of the world’s most recognizable DJ’s. He continues to mix and perform, but also has become a well-known radio host for a number of different markets, including Tampa, Toronto, Houston, and Austin.
