Icona Pop Biography

The Swedish DJ duo known as Icona Pop was established in 2009, by founding members Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt. The two musicians met while attending music school in Stockholm, and began writing music together. After a few years of writing and performing locally, Icona Pop entered the studio to begin work on a debut album, which arrived in 2012.

 

The duo’s self-titled debut was a hit, spawning the breakthrough single “I Love It” (featuring Charli XCX.) The song rose into the top ten internationally, reaching the number one spot in Sweden. Icona Pop followed up with a sophomore album, This Is… Icona Pop, in 2013. Additional singles since that time include: “We Got the World,” “Girlfriend,” “All Night,” and “Get Lost.” In 2014, Icona Pop received another boost in exposure by joining Miley Cyrus for her Bangerz World Tour and Katy Perry for her Prismatic World Tour.

 

In addition to their own music, Icona Pop has appeared as a guest artist on a number of singles by other musicians, including: Chiddy Bang (“Mind Your Manners”); The Cataracs (“Ready for the Weekend”); Tiesto (“Let’s Go”); and Cobra Starship (“Never Been In Love.”) Icona Pop is brand new to the music scene but definitely a star on the rise and one to watch. The duo is expected to return to the studio in the coming year to begin writing for their next album.
