Joris Voorn Biography

The Dutch DJ Joris Voorn was born in 1977 and grew up in Schiedam, the Netherlands. Joris began studying music when he was very young, learning to play the violin and guitar under the guidance of his father, who was a composer. The burgeoning techno scene of his teenage years shifted his musical tastes as a teenager, though, and by the time he was in his early twenties Voorn was working as a well-known techno and house DJ.

 

Despite his early start, Joris Voorn didn’t burst onto the mainstream or international scene until well into the new millennium, when he released his debut EP, Muted Trax, in 2002. Since that time, Voorn has followed up with the albums Future History (2004) and From a Deep Place (2007), in addition to a number of remixes, including: “Beach Kisses” (Dosem); “Believer” (Goldfrapp); “One Life Stand” (Hot Chip); “Beachball” (Nalin & Kane); “Dark Flower” (Robert Babicz); “Kobra Dance” (Wigald Boning); “The Tide” (Mark Fanciulli); “After the After” ( Moby); and “Don’t You Worry Child” (Swedish House Mafia.) In addition, his Dusty House Room EPs released throughout the millennium’s first decade, were enormously successful.

 

Most recently, Joris Voorn composed the anthem for Ibiza in 2009, “Sweep the Floor,” and was recognized as the Best Breakthrough artist at the annual event that year. Voorn is currently working on new material for his next album, scheduled for release in 2014.
