EDX Biography
EDX, born Maurizio Colella on November 2, 1976, is a renowned Swiss DJ and Grammy-nominated producer who has made an indelible mark on the electronic music scene. With a rich Italian heritage, he was born in Zürich, Switzerland, and credits his summers in Italy, steeped in its vibrant dance music culture, for igniting his passion for DJing and music production.
In 1994, EDX embarked on his musical journey by creating cassette tape mixes for the "Tarot Techno" parties at Club Oxa in Zürich. His debut track, "I'm Not Interested," emerged in 1997 under Warner Music Switzerland, setting the stage for his remarkable career. The subsequent year marked the birth of his own record label, Club Control, where he released tracks and collaborated with artists like Leon Klein.
Fast forward to 2007, EDX reinvented himself with a distinctive progressive house style. His remix of Dubfire's "Roadkill" in 2007 garnered significant attention. He followed this with more groundbreaking remixes, including van Buuren's "The Sound of Goodbye" and
Kaskade's "Angel on my Shoulder." The latter proved to be his breakthrough in the United States.
In 2009, Beatport recognized EDX as one of the top three "Best Progressive House Artists," solidifying his reputation alongside industry giants like deadmau5 and Eric Prydz. This year also marked the inception of his iconic weekly radio show, No Xcuses, on Sirius XM. The grandeur of his career continued with a residency at the renowned Ibiza Space nightclub in 2011. He released his dual CD mix, No Xcuses - The Violet Edition, and his debut studio album, "On the Edge," in 2012, featuring collaborations with prominent artists.
EDX's meteoric rise continued, making him Beatport's second best-selling deep house artist in 2014. By the end of 2015, he ruled the Beatport charts across all genres. Hits like "Belong" and tracks such as "Breathin'," "Cool You Off," "Reckless Ardor," along with remixes of renowned songs, consistently ranked high on the Beatport overall charts.
One of EDX's career-defining moments came with his 2015 remix of Sam Feldt's "Show Me Love," which soared to #2 on the Beatport overall charts and amassed over 100 million Spotify plays.
In 2017, EDX secured a prestigious Las Vegas residency with Wynn Nightlife and maintained a steady stream of releases. His tracks, such as "All I Know," "Feel the Rush," "Bloom," "We Can't Give Up," and his remix of Tiësto's "On My Way," showcased his musical prowess.
Highlighting his remarkable career, EDX earned a Grammy Award nomination in 2019 for Best Remixed Recording for his remix of
Charlie Puth's song "How Long."
In addition to his achievements as a DJ and producer, EDX is also known for his contributions to the music industry through his record label, Sirup Music, which he founded in 2001. Furthermore, he co-founded The Helvetic Nerds in 2008, a collective of talented artists.
EDX's passion, dedication, and groundbreaking contributions continue to shape the electronic music landscape. His music transcends boundaries and resonates with audiences worldwide. With a relentless commitment to his craft, EDX's influence on the electronic music scene remains unparalleled.
