Girl Talk Biography
The American disc jockey known as Girl Talk was born Gregg Michael Gillis in 1981. Gregg grew up in Pittsburgh, where he began dabbling in sampling when he was in high school. After graduation, Gillis entered Case Western Reserve University to study biomedical engineering, but continued his interest in music throughout his studies.
Ultimately adopting the moniker “Girl Talk” for his project, Gillis rose to prominence shortly after the release of his debut album, Secret Diary. With his talents now on the radar, he followed up with the album Unstoppable (2004), but it was the album Night Ripper which finally got some critical traction for Girl Talk in 2006. Tapped as one of Rolling Stone’s Best Albums of 2006, the album set the stage for the equally successful Feed the Animals (2008), which landed in the top ten on Time’s Albums for the year.
Since his rise to prominence, Girl Talk has performed at a number of notable festivals, including Coachella. Still less than a decade into his artistic rise, Girl Talk is continuing to grow in popularity and has become well-known for his performances, where he often brings fans up on stage to dance to his mixes.
