Choppa Biography

The rapper known as Choppa was born Darwin Turner in New Orleans, Louisiana. Shortly after the turn of the millennium, Choppa caught the attention of a number of record labels and signed with his first, Take Fo’ Records, in 2002.

 

Known for his version of bounce music, Choppa enjoyed immediate success in his first years with the release of Choppa Style in 2002 and then Straight from the N.O. in 2003, the latter of which featured the hit single “Choppa Style” (recorded with Master P) and rose into the top twenty on the R&B charts. The album also found a home on the mainstream charts. The albums Da Real Choppa (2005) and Comin’ Back Home (2006) followed.

 

In recent years, Choppa has launched his own record label, Street Balla Records. He also teamed up with Roy Jones Jr. as a member of the hip hop group Body Head Bangerz. Choppa’s most recent release is the single “She’s Bad,” featuring Marka.
