The rapper and actor known as Mack 10 was born Dedrick D’Mon Rolison in 1971. Mack 10 first rose to fame after his collaboration on the 1994 song “What Can I do,” in collaboration with Ice Cube. His work with Ice Cub led to the duo forming the Westside Connection, along with fellow rapper WC, in the 1990’s. It wasn’t long, though, before Mack 10 released his own self-titled album, which rose to the top of the charts and set the stage for his solo career.
Mack 10 followed his debut with the albums: Based on a True Story (1997), The Recipe (1998), The Paper Route (2000), Bang or Ball (2001), Mack 10 Presents da Hood (2002), Ghetto, Gutter, & Gangster (2003), Hustla’s Handbook (2005), and Soft White (2009.) the albums spawned the top forty R&B/hip-hop singles: “Foe Life” (with Ice Cube), “Nothin’ But the Cavi Hit” (with Tha Dogg Pound), “Backyard Boogie,” “Money’s Just a Touch Away” (with Gerald Levert), and “Connected for Life.”
Over the last decade, Mack 10 has also made a number of guest appearances on songs for other artists, including: “The Curse of Money” (with Ice Cube); “My Hoodlumz & My Thugs” (with E-40); “I Want It All” (with Warren G); “Shine” (with Lil’ Wayne); “Nobody Move” (with Insane Clown Posse); “A Few Good Men” (with T-Bone); and “Dope Man” (with N.W.A.) In addition, Mack 10 contributed to the soundtracks for the films Rhyme & Reason (1997) and Thicker than Water (1999), both of which rose into the top ten on the R&B/hip-hop charts.
Mack 10 continues to perform and record, and in recent years has appeared in a number of films, including Random Acts of Violence (2002), Halloween House Party (2005), and It Ain’t Easy (2006.)
