Lil Nas X Biography

Lil Nas X was born Montero Lamar Hill in 1999. He was raised in Georgia near Atlanta and was raised more by the Internet than the city itself. He played the trumpet throughout middle school but quit over the fear of his reputation. Lil Nas graduated from Lithia Springs High School in 2017. He dropped out of college after one year and contain red his hobby as an Internet personality before he started his career in music.

In late 2018 Lil Nas released “Old Town Road,” a country rap song on a budget of $50. He later promoted the song via memes before it reached the online platform TikTok. From there it took on a life of its own being utilized by over 500 million users globally, and it soon ignited a bidding war among labels. It debuted at #83 on the Billboard Hot 100, #19 on the Hot Country Songs chart, and #36 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts. Lil Nas signed with Columbia in March of 2019 and Billboard removed him from the country charts, which generated a lot of controversy. The song was later remixed with Billy Ray Cyrus and achieved a new life before he released his debut EP 7.

Lil Nas' debut project 7 debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 and charted top 10 in Australia, Canada, Denmark, New Zealand, and Sweden. It was later certified Platinum. Lil Nas’ biggest single to date has been the “Old Town Road (Remix)” with Billy Ray Cyrus. IT peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped all the charts in numerous countries. It has achieved Diamond certification by the RIAA. His other single, “Panini,” peaked at #5 on the Hot 100 chart and has been certified double Platinum.

Lil Nas X is currently nominated for six Grammys at the 2020 awards, including Record of the Year and Album of the Year.
