Allie X Biography
The Canadian singer and songwriter known as Allie X was born Alexandra Ashley Hughes in 1985. Allie grew up in Toronto, where she studied classical piano, theater, and opera. After completing her studies at Sheridan College’s Musical Thetaer Performance program, she returned to Toronto and launched a career first under the name Allie Hughes, peforming mostly indie pop and rock music.
Over the next few years, Allie self-released a series of CDs and EPs, including CollXtion I and Catch EP, both in 2015. The EPs spawned the singles “Prime,” “Bitch,” “Never Enough,” and “Catch,” which became Allie’s first single to chart in Canada—rising to the number fifity-five spot—and also the first single marketed under the name Allie X. The song not only became her first notable success, but earned her some recognition from high-profile artists, including Katy Perry, who praised the single for its artistry.
Today, Allie X is a rising star in Canada and also in the United States. Since moving to Los Angeles, Allie X has released her first debut album, CollXtion II, featuring the singles “Paper Love” and “Need You.” Still unsigned to a major label, Allie is currently working on material for her next album, and simultaneously seeking her first record deal.
