Declan McKenna Biography
The English singer, songwriter, and musician Declan McKenna was born in 1998. McKenna grew up in Hertfordshire, where he began performing music while still in high school. After winning the Glastonbury Festival’s Emerging Talent Competition in 2015, McKenna became one of the UK’s rising stars and most sought-after talents.
A bidding war for his first major record label ensued, and Declan chose to sign with Columbia Records. In August of 2015, he released his debut single, “Brazil,” which rose to the number one spot on the alternative charts in the UK. Across the ocean, the song reached into the top twenty on the American alternative charts, setting the stage for the release of his debut album, What Do You Think About the Car?
Declan McKenna is an international performer on the rise and one to watch in the coming years. He spent much of 2017 performing at some of the world’s most notable festivals, including Glastonbury Festival, Coachella, and Lollapalooza. That same year, Declan was awarded the BBC Introducing Artist of the Year award.
