Half Moon Run Biography
The Canadian indie rock band known as Half Moon Run was established in Montreal in the early 2010’s. Founding members Devon Portielje, Conner Molander, Dyland Phillips, and Isaac Symonds began writing and recording music in 2011, resulting in the debut album Dark Eyes in 2012.
Dark Eyes was a surprise hit, giving Half Moon Run a top ten Canadian debut and three top forty singles: “Full Circle,” “Call Me in the Afternoon,” and “She Wants to Know.” Earning some significant acclaim for their three-part harmonies and strong live performances, Half Moon Run quickly found itself in high demand for some of the world’s most noteworthy festivals, including: South by Southwest, Glastonbury Festival, and Osheaga. In 2013, a trailer for the videogame Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag featured Half Moon Run’s single “Full Circle,” bringing the band’s music to an even wider audience.
In 2014, Half Moon Run returned to the studio to begin work on their next studio album, just in time to be recognized by the SOCAN Awards in Montreal with an “International Achievement Award.” Although Half Moon Run has not released any material in a few years, the group’s most recent release—the album Sun Leads Me On—was another top five Canadian hit for the group. The album also reached into the top ten on the US Heatseekers charts and spawned the singles “Trust” and “Turn Your Love.”
