Lake Street Dive Biography

The indie jazz band known as Lake Street Dive was established in 2004 by founding members Mike Calabrese, Bridget Kearney, Mike Olson, and Rachael Price. All four musicians had met while in college, and after coming together in the mid 2000’s, they began performing around the Boston area, creating a growing fan base and quite a bit of local critical buzz.

 

In 2006, Lake Street Dive released their debut CD, in this episode…, followed by Promises, Promises in 2007. By 2011, Lake Street Dive had garnered the attention of Signature Sounds Recordings, which signed the band to their first record deal in time to a self-titled album in 2011. With label support behind them, the members of Lake Street Dive committed to a more extensive touring schedule and a return to the studio to record another album. For the next year, Lake Street Dive performed in eight countries, more than thirty different states in the US, and more than one hundred cities.

 

In recent years, Lake Street Dive has started to experience more significant mainstream success, due in part to their successful cover of the Jackson 5 classic hit “I Want You Back.” Lake Street Dive’s most recent album, Bad Self Portraits (2014) has been the group’s most successful to date. The album brought Lake Street Dive to The Ellen Degeneres Show, The Late Show with David Letterman, and the Colbert Report for performances, in addition to a forty-venue sold-out tour in 2014.
