Madeleine Peyroux Biography
Madeleine Peyroux was born in 1974 in Athens, Georgia. Her father was an aspiring actor who moved the family to New York when Madeleine was only six; the move would prove influential in developing the young Peyroux’s love of the performing arts and her developing aspirations as a singer.
Even more influential for young Madeleine was a move to Paris with her mother when she was thirteen, which exposed her to the street performers of the Latin Quarter and further inspired her love of jazz and blues. By the time she was sixteen, she’d joined a band and was touring Europe as a performer. Her talents caught the attention of record labels, and after signing with Atlantic Records, Peyroux released her debut, Dreamland, in 1996, to critical acclaim.
Suddenly, Madeleine Peyroux was opening for the likes of Sarah McLachlan on tour, and participating in such festivals as the Montreal Jazz Festival and Lilith Fair. Additional albums followed, including: Careless Love (2004), Half the Perfect World (2006), Bare Bones (2009), Standing on the Rooftop (2011), and most recently, the Blue Room (2013.) Madeleine Peyroux continues to enjoy a rising career with plans for future performances, tours, and albums.
