The American saxophonist Ronnie Laws was born in 1950 in Houston, Texas. Laws began learning the saxophone while still a child, and at the age of twenty-two, he joined the group Earth, Wind & Fire. Ronnie left the group before they rocketed to success, and steered his attention to a solo career starting in the mid 1970’s.
Ronnie Laws released his debut album, Pressure Sensitive, in 1975. The album featured his instrumental hit, “Always There,” which rose to become a classic song in the jazz-funk canon of music. Dozens of albums have followed since, including: Flame (1978), Solid Ground (1981), Mirror Town (1986), True Spirit (1989), Brotherhood (1995), Dream a Little (2000), and Everlasting (2004.)
Ronnie Laws is still considered among the era’s most notable sax players. His most recent solo album, Voices in the Water, arrived in 2009.
