Walter Beasley Biography

The American saxophonist Walter Beasley grew up in El Centro, California. Walter’s immersion into the world of professional music began when he was very young; at the age of 13 he began singing in the Spanish music band Los Elegantes, and by the time he was in high school he was performing at various clubs in the area.

Walter attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating in 1984, and immediately after began a teaching position at the school. A few years later, Beasley released a self-titled debut album, featuring a unique blend of R&B and contemporary jazz. The success of his debut lead to a recording career which has lasted well into the new millennium and made Walter one of the era’s most successful African American saxophone players.

Today, Walter Beasley serves as a professor of music at Berklee College of Music, and manages Affable Publishing and Affable Records, both of which he founded in the early 1990’s. Walter has also released a number of educational DVDs for aspiring musicians. His most recent album, Live in the Club, was released in 2013.
