Damien Escobar Biography
Damien Escobar, also known as Dame Esco, is a highly talented
American violinist renowned for his captivating "crossover violin" style. Born in 1986 in the vibrant neighborhood of Jamaica, Queens, New York City, Damien's musical journey began at a young age. Growing up with his single mother and older brother, Tourie, he discovered his passion for the violin at the tender age of eight.
Remarkably, at the age of ten, Damien Escobar earned the distinction of becoming the youngest student ever accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School of Music. His prodigious talent saw him graduate from Juilliard at just 13 years old, a testament to his extraordinary musical aptitude. He further honed his skills at the Bloomingdale School of Music, solidifying his foundation in classical violin.
Damien's early years were marked by busking in the bustling streets of New York City. Together with Tourie, they made a name for themselves as street musicians, captivating audiences in Grand Central Station and the subways. In 2003, they formed the dynamic duo Nuttin' But Stringz, embarking on a musical journey that incorporated elements of classical, jazz, pop, R&B, and hip-hop into their performances.
Their talent shone brightly, earning them accolades like winning a talent contest at the iconic Apollo Theater and securing third place in the 2008 season of
America's Got Talent. They had the privilege of performing at historic events, including the first inauguration of President Barack Obama in 2009, and even earned two Emmy Awards for their exceptional contributions to music.
In 2012, after years of success as Nuttin' But Stringz, Damien Escobar decided to pursue a solo career. His journey led him to a brief stint as a real estate broker, where he obtained his real estate license. However, his passion for music ultimately called him back to his true calling.
Damien's return to the music scene as a solo artist was marked by memorable performances on notable platforms like the French TV show Taratata, the Indy Car 2012 Championship Awards Banquet, Russell Simmons's Hip Hop Inaugural Ball, and the 2013 Food & Wine event in New York City.
In 2013, Damien embarked on the I Am Me tour, aimed at promoting his comeback to the music scene. He further solidified his solo career with the release of his debut solo album, "Sensual Melodies," in 2014, showcasing his remarkable talent and versatility.
Beyond music, Damien Escobar displayed his creativity by authoring an autobiographical children's book titled "The Sound of Strings" in 2014. He continued to elevate his career, gracing Oprah's "The Life You Want" weekend tour with his mesmerizing performances.
In September 2015, Damien released his first pop single, "Freedom," which quickly climbed to #15 on the iTunes chart. His second solo album, "Boundless," released in 2017, garnered a nomination at the 49th NAACP Image Awards in 2018 in the Outstanding Jazz Album category.
Following a brief hiatus, Damien returned with more musical offerings, including his album "Songs from a Breakthrough" and "25 Days of Christmas" in 2020, captivating audiences with his artistry and passion.
In 2022, Damien Escobar embarked on the "Life Out Loud" tour across the United States, inspiring audiences to live life to the fullest without regrets. As of 2022, he is diligently working on his upcoming album, slated for release in 2023, promising to further enrich the world of music with his extraordinary talent and innovative style. Damien Escobar's remarkable journey from a young prodigy to a solo artist continues to captivate music lovers worldwide.
