Howie Dorough was born Howard D. Dorough in 1973 in Orlando, Florida. Howie initially rose to fame as a member of the Backstreet Boys, after establishing the group alongside friend A.J. McLean and fellow members Kevin Richardson, Nick Carter, and Brian Littrell. The Backstreet Boys caught the attention of Jive Records in the early 1990’s and on the strength of hits such as "Quit Playing Games (with My Heart)," "As Long as You Love Me," and "Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)," the "boy band" sensation was the focus of every teenage girl’s heart for nearly a decade.
The Backstreet Boys continue to perform and record together, although during the band’s lengthy hiatus Dorough began to pursue other projects, including working as a producer for a number of other artists and founding his own management partnership, HC Entertainment. Howie’s debut solo album, Back to Me, was released in 2011 to moderate success, but he has also collaborated with a number of different artists over the last few years. Most recently, Dorough recorded the song "I’ll Be There" with Sarah Geronimo, and co-wrote the song "I Like It," for Mandy Moore.
Howie Dorough has also pursued aspirations outside of the entertainment industry, including the establishment of the company Sweet D, a real estate development company founded alongside his brother. In addition, after losing his sister to the disease Lupus in 1998, Howie and his family also founded the Dorough Lupus Foundation, which seeks to raise funds for research and awareness about the insidious disease.
Howie Dorough continues to perform and record as a solo artist and also as a member of the Backstreet Boys.
