Justin Timberlake Biography

As the baby-faced heartthrob of the band *NSYNC, Justin Timberlake was a major part of the boy-band pop phenomenon of the 1990’s and the new millennium. But Timberlake’s achievements in his solo career since then speak far more to his enduring talent as a singer, dancer, and actor.

*NSYNC began in Orlando, Florida, in 1996, and within only a few years the band had reached superstardom. All five members, including Justin Timberlake, graced the cover of teen magazines constantly, and while they sold millions of records, the critics looked upon them less favorably, as merely another group of pretty faces packaged for teenage girls.

But Timberlake’s talents quickly set him apart. His first solo album, released on Jive Records in 2002, hit the charts immediately, on the strength of singles such as “Cry Me a River” and “Like I Love you.” It quickly reached number two on the charts, and Justin Timberlake went on to win two Grammies. He returned in 2006 with FutureSex/LoveSounds, which hit the charts running; largely in part to the strength of “SexyBack” which remained at the number one spot on the charts for seven weeks straight. “My Love” came next, and “What Goes Around…. Comes Around Interlude” after that. In 2007 Justin Timberlake launched the FutureSex/LoveShow tour in support of the album, and Grammy Awards for Male Pop Performance and Dance Recording Award followed in 2008.

Around the same time, Justin Timberlake embarked on what would become an equally impressive acting career. His first role, as a journalist in the film Edison Force, was seen in 2004, and he also appeared in Alpha Dog, Black Snake Moan, Southland Tales, and Shrek the Third, voicing Prince Artie Pendragon, the young, arrogant prince. Justin returned to the screen for The Love Guru in 2008, and The Open Road in 2009. The Social Network (2010), Bad Teacher (2011), Friends with Benefits (2011), and In Time (2012) followed. Timberlake returned to music in 2013 with the album The 20/20 Experience, followed by The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2. He also returned to the big screen in the films Runner Runner and Inside Llewyn Davis.

Justin Timberlake continues to balance an impressive career in both music and film, with innumerous future projects on the horizon. This far, he has earned four Emmy Awards, ten Grammy Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, and three Brit Awards. Timberlake most recently voiced one of the key characters in the animated film Trolls (2016.) He will also appear in the 2017 film Wonder Wheel.
