Kesha Biography

Kesha was born Kesha Rose Sebert in 1987 in Los Angeles, California. Her mother was a singer, and so Kesha grew up in a household filled with music, even though the family struggled financially when she was a child. Kesha learned to play a variety of instruments, including the sax and trumpet, and participated in her high school’s marching band. As a young teen, Kesha learned to write music and often wrote songs with her mother, and so it was certainly not a surprise when after leaving high school at the age of seventeen, she quickly caught the attention of music publishing companies.

After signing to the music publishing company Prescription Songs, Kesha also went on to sing background vocals for a number of other artists, helping to bring her to the attention of record labels. She eventually signed with RCA Records and released Animal, her debut, in 2010. The album, which featured Kesha’s unique electropop sound, debuted at number one and eventually went multi platinum worldwide. Its lead single, “Tik Tok,” was an enormous success, breaking chart records and paving the way for the success of the follow-up singles, “Take it Off,” “Your Love is My Drug,” and “Blah Blah Blah.” Since that time, Kesha has been a powerhouse performer, releasing two additional albums (Cannibal in 2010 and Warrior in 2012), sending additional singles to the top of the charts (“We R Who We R” and “Blow”), and embarking on the headlining tours Get Sleazy Tour (2011) and Warrior Tour (2013.)

In addition to her burgeoning music career, Kesha has also become a vocal advocate for animal rights, joining forces with the Human Society to become the organization’s first global ambassador. She is also an activate supporter of PETA’s campaigns to end the barbaric practice of seal clubbing and to improve the conditions of slaughterhouses in the United States.
