Taylor Swift Biography

Taylor Swift was born in 1989 in Pennsylvania, but she moved to Nashville while still a teenager to pursue her aspirations to become a country music singer. Taylor began working with notable songwriters and recording demos, and eventually signed on with Sony’s publishing house. Shortly after garnering her first record deal, Swift released her self-titled debut album in 2006, when she was only sixteen years old.

Taylor Swift’s first single, “ Tim McGraw,” released shortly after, followed by four more singles off the album: “Our Song,” “Should’ve Said No,” “Picture to Burn,” and “Teardrops on My Guitar.” The latter became a top twenty hit, rising to the number thirteen spot, and the album has since gone on to multi-platinum status. Three albums have since followed (Fearless, 2008; Speak Now, 2010; and Red, 2012), spawning the hit singles: “Change,” “Love Story,” “White Horse,” “Crazier,” “You Belong With Me,” “Fifteen,” “Fearless,” “Mine,” “Today Was a Fairytale,” “Back to December,” “Mean,” “Ours,” “Eyes Open,” “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” “Begin Again,” and “I Knew You Were Trouble.”

Although still very young, Taylor Swift’s artistic focus has branched into film, with appearances in the 2010 film Valentine’s Day and voicing one of the characters in the Lorax (2012.) Swift is also known for her philanthropy; she supports a number of charitable organizations, including programs to support educational endeavors, to raise funds for disaster relief, and to promote equal rights, particularly those supporting the LGBT community. Others include the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and the UNICEF Tap Program.

So far in her career, Taylor Swift has been recognized with six Academy of Country Music Awards, seven Grammys, eleven American Music Awards, and twelve Billboard Music Awards. She has sold more than twenty-six million albums and continues to tour, record, and perform.
