Tori Kelly Biography
The singer and songwriter Tori Kelly was born in 1992 in Wildomar, California. Tori spent most of her childhood harboring dreams of becoming a singer, and so as a teenager she entered one of her first competitions with the television show Star Search. In 2004, she competed on America’s Most Talented Kids, rising to a position among the finalists, and ultimately garnering the attention of Geffen Records.
Tori signed with Geffen, but artistic differences eventually led to the dissolution of the contract within a few years. By 2007, Kelly was posting her own performances on YouTube, and it wasn’t long before she began to establish her own supportive fan base. With her confidence growing, Tori Kelly entered the studio to write and record her own self-released EP, Handmade Songs By Tori Kelly. This time, an offer for a recording contract with Capitol Records ended up being one which endured, and so in 2015 Tori Kelly released her debut album with the label, Unbreakable Smile.
Unbreakable Smile was a smash hit for Tori Kelly, with the lead single “Nobody Love” rising into the mainstream charts and earning Tori a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist. Kelly’s career received another boost when her song “Silent” was included on The Giver: Music Collection, in support of the feature film The Giver.
Tori Kelly is a brand new artist on the rise and definitely one to keep an eye on in the coming years. In addition to her Grammy nomination, Tori Kelly is also the recipient of the Billboard Women in Music award for Breakthrough Artist, and she has been nominated for a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Breakout Artist. Tori Kelly’s latest single, “Hollow,” arrived in 2016, and she is scheduled for a number of live appearances in the coming years.
