Austin Mahone Biography

Austin Mahone was born in 1996 and, like icons such as Justin Bieber, rose to pop star status after his YouTube videos created a grassroots following. As a child, Austin fell in love with music, and began self-directed study in drums, guitar, and vocals.  By the time he was a teenager, he’d already recognized the power and potential of social media, and (much like Bieber), began recording his performances, both solo and alongside a friend.

The performances were posted to YouTube in the summer of 2010, and a slow but loyal following began to built. With his charming looks and personality, Mahone reached out to his growing fan base and within two years, Austin had also garnered the attention of Universal Republic Records.

Universal Republic released his first singles (“Say Somethin,” “Say You’re Just a Friend,” and “What About Love”) to significant commercial success, and the label is currently working to support Austin’s debut album efforts. Although Austin’s career is just getting started, he’s already been recognized as Radio Disney Award’s Breakout Star, the Young Hollywood Awards Breakout Artist, and the MTV Video Music Awards Artist to Watch. He has also garnered multiple nominations in such categories as Best Male Artist and Best Acoustic Performance, for “Say Somethin.”

In addition, Mahone has appeared on the television series Big Time Rush and found himself listed in the top forty on the Billboard Social 50 chart and as one of MTV’s 2013 Artists to Watch. Austin Mahone further supports his strong fan base with an active media presence, participating in Skype calls with his fans and maintaining an unusual level of accessibility through online channels.
